Ophthalmology AI Custom Development

We provide end-to-end custom development of ophthalmology AI using OCT and fundus cameras — from problem framing and PoC through model development, validation, and SaMD readiness. From lesion detection and disease classification to severity grading and finding visualization (XAI), we build to fit your challenge.

What is ophthalmology AI custom development?

Ophthalmology AI custom development is a service in which a specialist company designs, builds, validates, and operates AI — for lesion detection, disease classification, severity grading, and finding visualization on ophthalmic images such as OCT and fundus photographs. Building on our own ophthalmology AI (OCT retinal-disease classification and diabetic-retinopathy diagnosis), Kewel develops it together with our in-house specialist physicians so it is genuinely useful in clinical practice.

Modalities

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)Fundus cameras

Target diseases / findings (examples)

Targets are adjusted to your challenge.

  • Diabetic retinopathy (DR)
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • Glaucoma
  • Retinal vein occlusion (RVO)
  • Macular hole / epiretinal membrane
  • OCT findings such as subretinal fluid (SRF)

What we build on commission

Lesion detection & segmentation

Automatically detect and segment hemorrhages, exudates, neovascularization, and retinal-layer abnormalities from OCT and fundus images.

Classification & severity grading

Beyond presence/absence, we build models for severity and stage grading, such as diabetic-retinopathy staging (e.g., Davis classification).

Finding extraction & visualization (XAI)

Automatically extract OCT findings with color-coding and tags, and visualize the diagnostic rationale with explainable AI (XAI).

Data design & annotation

From data design and annotation to dataset construction, under the supervision of our in-house specialist physicians.

Kewel's strengths in this domain

  • A novel AI model for OCT retinal-disease classification (patent filed)
  • Model design that generalizes across OCT devices from multiple vendors
  • Clinically-grounded development together with our in-house specialist physicians
  • Diagnostic rationale made visible with explainable AI (XAI)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you develop even with limited case data?
We support data design, annotation, and augmentation, and can proceed by first validating feasibility through a PoC.
Do you support both OCT and fundus imaging?
Yes. We handle both OCT (layer analysis, retinal-disease classification) and fundus cameras (e.g., diabetic retinopathy).
Can you work toward SaMD?
We design and develop with explainability and SaMD readiness in mind. For regulatory affairs, we currently work with a regulatory CRO (contract research organization).

Looking for a medical AI development partner?

We can start from problem scoping and a PoC. Please feel free to get in touch.
